UTRGV Earns First Great Colleges to Work For Honor Roll Distinction

UTRGV earns recognition in six workplace categories as employee feedback places it among 42 colleges on the 2026 Honor Roll

BROWNSVILLE, TX, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Employee feedback has placed The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley among a select group of nationally recognized higher education workplaces. UTRGV earned its first Honor Roll distinction in the 2026 Great Colleges to Work For program after receiving recognition in six workplace categories. The university was one of 42 colleges nationwide selected for the Honor Roll.

The 2026 announcement marks the third consecutive year that UTRGV has been recognized through the national workplace program. UTRGV competed in the large-university category for institutions enrolling more than 10,000 students. Recognition is based primarily on employee responses to a confidential survey, along with information provided through an institutional questionnaire.

UTRGV received recognition for job satisfaction and support; professional development; mission and pride; supervisor and department chair effectiveness; confidence in senior leadership; and inclusion, belonging and community. The six categories represent an increase from two categories in 2025.

The survey was administered by ModernThink and sent to more than 4,000 full-time UTRGV employees, including faculty members, administrators and professional support staff. More than 2,000 employees submitted anonymous feedback, producing a 49 percent response rate.

UTRGV’s workforce supports a growing university serving the Rio Grande Valley. A total of 7,885 faculty and staff members, including part-time and student employees, support academic programs, research, healthcare initiatives, student services and other university activities. UTRGV began the Fall 2026 semester with a record 36,466 students, including 7,373 incoming freshmen.

Employee-development resources include in-house coaching, mentoring, leadership academies, service workshops and 24-hour E-Learn training. Employees also have access to tuition assistance, medical care, confidential counseling and wellness resources. Nationwide, 171 colleges received recognition through the 2026 program, including 105 four-year institutions and 66 two-year colleges. The Honor Roll represents the highest-scoring institutions within the program’s classifications.
