MICHAEL JACKSON’S “THRILLER” JACKET AND SHOES, MOTOWN 25 STAGE-WORN GLOVE AND ‘MOONWALK’ LOAFERS TO BE AUCTIONED DECEMBER 7

Four Iconic Artifacts That Defined Music, Fashion and Pop Culture Return to Auction During Julien’s Celebrity & Pop Culture Experience in Abu Dhabi

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Four of the most iconic artifacts in music history — representing the moments Michael Jackson transformed music, dance, fashion and global pop culture — will return to the auction block at Julien’s Auctions’ Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy Evening Auction, taking place December 7 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi.

Julien's Auctions - Michael Jackson Original Thriller Jacket

Leading the historic offering is Jackson’s original black and candy-red leather jacket worn in the groundbreaking 1983 “Thriller” music video. One of just two jackets created for the production is the only piece worn by Jackson during scenes in which he does not appear in zombie makeup. Designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis, the jacket became one of the most recognizable garments in entertainment history and helped ignite a worldwide fashion phenomenon.

Also offered are Jackson’s black leather Florsheim loafers worn during “Thriller” filming and rehearsals, accompanied by a signed letter to choreographer Michael Peters; the rhinestone-studded glove worn during Jackson’s legendary Motown 25 performance, estimated at $600,000-$800,000; and the black Florsheim loafers worn during rehearsals for the performance in which Jackson introduced his Moonwalk to the world, estimated at $60,000-$80,000.

The Motown 25 glove returns to auction for the first time since Julien’s sold it for a then-record-breaking $430,000 in 2009.

“As the world’s leading entertainment auction house, and the team that set world records for both the Thriller jacket in 2011 and the Motown 25 glove in 2009, it is a true privilege to offer these pieces of history again,” said Martin Nolan, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Julien’s Auctions. “Each one carries a moment that changed pop culture forever, and we’re honored to offer them again.”

The four artifacts were unveiled October 7 at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles before embarking on international previews in the United States, Japan, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.

The December auction headlines Julien’s inaugural Celebrity & Pop Culture Experience, taking place December 7–9 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi and featuring Michael Jackson, Pop Culture Legends and Princess Diana auctions, exhibitions and cultural programming.
